I'm so aggravated! I spent ages (minutes) working on this post.
I said witty, amusing things. Made jokes about Nymph's Castle and some-people-who-shall-remain-nameless.... And forgot to save. And got kicked off the Internet in of my super-deluxe, fancy-pants hotel. Five times. Maybe ten.
Rant complete. So, Nymphenburg Castle is 20 minutes from my hotel, a mere €1.20 from downtown Munich. It's a huge, sprawling castle with Versailles - like gardens.
Amalienburg is a hunting lodge on the grounds of Nymphenburg (Nymph's Castle), built from 1734 to 1739 for the Electress Maria Amalia of Bavaria. Queens were called Electress and kings, Electors. But have no doubt, they lived like kings.
Amalienburg was a hunting lodge with a large, lovely kitchen. Here's the facade:
And the kitchen!
This is one of my favorite little castles of the entire trip. It's decorated as a homage to hunting. In the room of mirrors, each mirror has a different rural motif. One of the mirrors shows cherubs harvesting hops. Very cool.
This blog got a lot of hits on the photo of me in Bavarian attire. Go figure.
I've been in Munich for about a week. The holiday has been superb. Lots of great food, beer and such. But I do miss a couple of thing. Like Belmont. This is an extremely dog-friendly city (but that's another post). I also miss my phone and texting. And looking stuff up. And finding places. On my phone.
I also miss salad. Arugula, frisee, mesclun mix with a lovely lemon, vinegar, salt dressing. I love meat, but I will soon grow weary of it appearing in salads.
I miss Obsidian stout, one of Deschutes Brewery beers.
And my jeans are starting to smell funny.
Auf Wiedersehen!
