Today, I present my finished submissions to the Oregon State Fair.
I'm not 100% happy with all my State Fair canned goods but they're prepped and ready to submit. My big question marks are the jam and sauerkraut. I didn't have the time* to start another batch of kraut -- four weeks minimum to ferment and another half-day to can.
But my submissions (that word keeps creeping into my writing -- weird) look so much better than they did last year. Yesterday, I picked up printer ink and made labels:
When I say "I present my ..." I mean that the items will be conveyed to the Fair, not by myself, but by the all-powerful Emily Monstadt.
Last year Emily, a work friend, dropped all our canned goods at the fair. I didn't have labels, so she had to cut out my canning notes from a sheet of lined, yellow paper and tape each set of notes to the jars.
Emily will once again convey the goods to the Fair. Judging will take place a few days before opening day. I usually open the pickles on Judgement Day to taste the same product the judges are tasting.
So, Pickle Party at my place on, or near, August 24.
* I've been working a lot and dating a lot this summer. I know, I know, my priorities are skewed... Work is a given. But, what's more important, boys or blue ribbons??
